John Prine’s Ain’t Hurtin’ Nobody sounds like a Mark Knopfler tune

Anyone else hear this and agree? Mark Knopfler covering this would be incredible.

Great call. I love both, and hadn't thought of this. Mostly I listen to the older Prine which has a simpler sound. But I wore out Lost Dogs when it came out and need to put it back into the rotation. Lake Marie in particular is a great song.

I think knockin’ on your screen door may be his catchiest song. I listen to that thing on repeat all day every day. Lol

I think most lists would include Paradise and Angel from Montgomery (and rightly so). Trying to do something else then…

Summer’s End
Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)
Hello in There
Christmas in Prison
All the Best

I did think for a bit that Hello in There might also be too well know for an “underrated” list, but I left it in because I couldn’t make up my mind on what to replace it with. Maybe… Souvenirs or Please don’t Bury Me. Spanish Pipedream never fails to make me smile. There are just too many great songs with inspired lyrics. I adore Prine and have realized in this thread that I am grieving him still.

Reading each song title you put down I’m nodding going “love that one too” lol…much like Jim Croce’s catalogue it’s hard not to adore each and every song.

Never quite understood his (or his grandad's) take on Lincoln or Eisenhower, knowing that he was from Kentucky.

Interesting tidbit-Both John Prine and Don Everly both had their ashes scattered in the Green River in Kentucky.

Btw, that river is incredible for cat fishing.
