Thinking about removing some unhealthy trees in front yard and replacing with sugar maples. They will be about 40 yards from the house.
Thoughts on these trees?

I put in a Sunset Maple years ago and that tree performed beautifully. Great growth habit, shape, color in fall. I’m a fan.

The LSU AgCenter classifies Southern Sugar Maple as a Louisiana Superplant LINK. It tolerates heat & humidity better than many other maples. Nice tree.

Google them and there is a lot of information on the "Pros and Cons" of having them in the landscape.
My neighbor next door to me in the last house I owned had 2 of them on the property line and when the leaves dropped, they were a mess to deal with and strong storms often found branches breaking off and falling=====that's my only experience with them.

I recently went to a tree conference and the North Carolina Extension agents say Sugar Maples are one of the most durable trees to plant. They basically discouraged planting red maples. They are seeing a lot of issues with them. Especially in urban environments.

I couldn’t find any southern sugar maples when we built our house. We planted 3 Florida flame maples and have been very impressed with them.
