Campeche Mexico

So, I have been to many of the Mexican tourist destinations, but am intrigued by Campeche. It looks like a lot of history, good food, and great beaches without all of the tourists that come with Cancun or Playa del Carmen. Anyone been? I'd love to hear your experiences.

Don’t get killed. Mexico is a narco state. I wouldn’t trust anything outside of the Cancun area which they load down with military and federales.

That was one of my concerns as well, but Campeche has the lowest state department travel advisory there is, and is supposed to be as safe as visiting places like Iceland. Not sure why it's different than the rest of Mexico, but apparently it is.
