i just came back from it, at like 2 in the morning.

it pretty much sucked. i can see how people think it's good because it's very oscarly made. i thought david fincher was better than this.

brad pitt hardly added anything to it. cate blanchett and tilda swinton are too ugly for any guys to remotely enjoy this movie... least anticipated sex scene ever.

It's an okay movie. Just way too long. Stay away from large drinks.

Tilda Swenson and Cate Blanchett are unattractive? Boy, are we on totally different wavelengths.

And I think Brad Pitt brought a lot to this role. In fact, I think it’s his best performance ever, certainly his most mature. I think showy roles tend to win awards, but it’s easy to be larger than life or play a character in broad strokes. Here, Pitt plays a guy who is withdrawn from the world because he is not, nor can he ever be, truly a part of it. The action unfolds before him. He’s not creating the action, he lets it be created.

It’s a difficult role to play a guy like that. Because your tendency is to want to dominate the scenes. Brad Pitt doesn’t allow himself to do that, and instead plays a very tightly controlled person who keeps his distance from everyone and everything.

Which is a long way of saying I loved it.

Always enjoy your reviews, and I generally agree with them-- except for Walle-e. I watched this a few weeks back and did not come to the conclusion that you and others have generally offered. Perhaps it is one of those shows that I need to give a second chance to.

Or it could just be that you don’t like Wall-E. We don’t always have to agree. I’m out of step on a few classics, and I think I’m the only person who saw Synecdoche, NY this year who thought it was a flaming turd.

I appreciate the compliment. I try to give decent reviews which people can use. But in the end, it’s your opinion whether you like a movie or not.
