Guy has a lot of upside. Coached for multiple NFL teams...did a descent amount of work in college before jumping. Was looked at for a couple of HC jobs in the pro's.
Saban recruiting him to the Dolphins over Miles bringing him to LSU. I see this as a huge plus when the Gump coaches try to recruit a kid and tell him that LSU doesn't have a DC that can get him to the next level. Gives some explanation to why Willis reupped with Auburn.
Also, this guy is going to want to be a HC...may think NFL is not going to happen, so college pays good, hence, EO comes as DL and is DC in waiting.

Keep in mind this is a rumor, and as we have all seen...things change.

..but

I think it's a mistake not hiring a proven college DC. I like Edwards a lot, and I think he would have been a great choice last year. But after the year we've had, with the dissension we've had on the defense, LSU can't afford to risk hiring an unproven DC.

The positives on Edwards are that quality defensive coaches like Butch Davis, Marvin Lewis, & Nick Saban all hired him. What is interesting is he was hired by Saban, then only 1 of 2 to be retained by Cameron, then the only 1 to be retain by Parcells when he took over the front office.

So you have a guy who passed the test of 3 different head coaches and Parcells (who calls all the personnel shots at Miami). Frankly, you cannot coach on a team run by Parcells unless you can actually coach.

Still, it is a risk and I'd prefer not to risk anything next year. But it's Miles' butt on the line.
