Gunite pool resurfacing

Does anyone have experience having their gunite pool resurfaced? What is a reasonable expectation of cost and does anyone have a reference for someone in the BR area?

I skipped that part and did DIY epoxy on the whole thing. Love it! Found the paint/primer 1/3 price on Craigslist and almost the perfect amount. Followed directions better than I’ve ever followed directions in my life. My PH is lower and more stable than ever and I can keep alkalinity super low so the waterfall doesn’t F with it either. Hope I get 6-8 years.

Nothing to add other than I will be doing the same this upcoming fall/winter on the Northshore. My pool will be 7 years old and I was told I should get 10 years out of it, but it is starting to show signs of the plaster rubbing off in spots.
I’d like to go back with DiamondBrite or something similar after seeing how quickly the plaster deteriorated.

No one can tell you how much it’s gonna cost cause you didn’t include any information. Volume doesn’t matter, sq footage does. Epoxy paint on pools is crap and no one in town will offer to do that for you. The above poster will have paint rubbing off his walls in less than 3 years
Plaster only lasts if you take care of it.
Call NY Garcia enterprises. They’re a popular subcontractor that a lot of builders around here hire.

I’ve been told that ours would cost 12-15k. It is three years old. But I like to budget way way out for known big expenses. Ours is 18x32 with a deep end of 6.5ft.

mine was done before covid but paid 5-6k and it was basically blue plaster with some quartz mixed in, it was a noble tile product similar to diamondbrite but not as nice. i would recommend going with diamondbrite or quatzscape( i think the other one). Pebble tech will run you a lot more.
couple of notes:
if you get a lot of sun, dont go dark unless you have a chiller, pools heat up much quicker with darker plaster. looks nice but its a hot tub right now. i get a lot of sun.
Colors look different in water so whoever you go with see if they have customers that you can physically go out and look at it. it's a big investment.
sometimes its cheaper if you need tile or coping work done all at the same time. Get plaster price first and then say how much more would it cost to do tile/ coping as well.
they will add cost to acid wash, make sure when the pool fills the acid washed out evenly and didn't leave streaks before paying final pay.

We have quartz scape. It is what our installer used. We picked a pretty basic blue. It serves its purpose. There were 8 football playing high schoolers in it last night. I don’t even wanna know how they splashed 3 inches of water out.

Olympic Zeron with similar primer. Don’t remember how much I used but similar to directions. Only complaint is blue ice is a little more colorful than some pictures show and I wish I would have used the lighter mist color. It fades over time and looks better every year though.
Only lesson learned is keep it thin and consistent. Left a small area puddle thick in spa and it started to crack there. Need to sprinkle a little sand on steps also but luckily I did that. It’s super slippery.

Recently had ours redone in Baton Rouge. Used subcontractor named Saldana Pool Plastering. Cost was about $10k. Estimate from pool builder was $19k, so was very happy with Saldana who did a great job.

That’s funny. It’s been 3 years and it’s perfect still. Actually looks better every year because it’s slightly fading like it should.
The only parts to fail both in the spa are about 10 square inches where I let it puddle and it’s cracking or the plaster blew out underneath.
The epoxy to plaster bond is multiple times stronger than the plaster itself. No chance it “peels” off. Anything that comes off is taking a lot of plaster with it.
Was it a huge pain in the arse doing it right? Yes.
Would I buy it if I didn’t get a deal hard to pass up? Maybe.
My all in price was under a grand for 22k gallon play pool and spa but a lot of planning and sweat. Probably $2k had I not found the Craigslist deal. Might be a little janky but water chemistry and zero care requirements make up for that.

I got Ecofinish Aquabright installed in 2017 for $7500. So far so good. It looks the same as it did 7 years ago.
I know of some people who have experienced problems with Aquabright. Just like any of the pool surface options, it comes down to the actual installation. Make sure the company that does the work knows what they are doing.
