Does anyone have Reit's? Real Estate Investment Trust. I'm starting to see more of this pop up but do not know anyone personally that has this. Is this a scam way of paying an adviser for a locked in time? Looks like you have to be invested for a longer length of time, but not sure. Any input is appreciated.

I’ve had some for about 10 years. As the other poster mentioned, the divided has been nice but the stocks have been hammered over the past 4 years. Certainly depends on what they are holding. I sold out of most earlier this year just to move on to other stocks

I own some in my Roth. That way I have some exposure and take advantage of the unqualified dividends. It’s been a rough few years though. The way I think of it is If and when I’m no longer eligible to contribute to a Roth, I’ll use the REIT dividends to keep feeding the rest of the account.

In my prior life, REITs hired me for internal valuation purposes. Knowing what I have seen from the inside, I would not invest in them.

Be sure to understand the tax implications. Most the dividends are taxed at regular income rates. Often they're better held in tax advantaged accounts.

Avoid private REITs like an std. To this day I still know people who can’t get out of them who have had them 10+ years. It’s insane.

Traded REITs are investable.

A lot of REITs are down right now due to higher interest rates.

However I recommend Realty Income like previously posted. I’ve held it now for about 14 years.

I only have about 1500 shares but I may add to it during this downturn.
