Does that mean the coaches cannot attend the All-Star games? or just not "recruit" during that time?

Now. Dead period means no in person contact either on-campus or off, but they can communicate by phone, text etc.

When does the dead period end? After the Bowl Games?

Sorry, but that PDF did not help much. Just wondering if any of the LSU coaches would be at the game.

dead period is this week. and once the UA and army all-american games end, it is another month until signing day.

Mike - it's an extreme limitation on what they can do. I'm not sure about the resolution on the texting rule (I was told that is has been completely outlawed, but I haven't confirmed it for myself). However, as for phone calls, it's a mandated limitation of 1 call/week, and the coach cannot call the recruit at any other time.

During the dead period, there are no player visits, unofficial or official, no coaching visits or visits to high schools, not even speeches at banquets. It's as close to a suspension of the recruiting process as is possible for the NCAA to enforce.

My bad. I was referring to email/snail mail and not text messaging.

Coaches may hang around on the outside of the fence during practices. It's also possible they could get "bumped into" at The Alamo or DisneyWorld.

BUT they will NOT be there during the UA game for sure. Them being in hte stands would constitute a "visit" with EVERY kid in the game or in the stands.

They will NOT attend.

Interesting.
Access to practice at Disney is one thing. It would be hard to "sneak in" the Citrus Bowl. Thanks for the info.
