Will he get a chance to compete for QB position? How good is he?

No, because he will be playing baseball he would have to take up a scholarship spot for football if he were to play football. And since as yet we have not recruited him for football I don't think he will be on the team.

Why can't a baseball player walk on as a FB player?

you can't play football and be on scholarship for another sport without taking up a scholarship for football.
Bear Bryant used to exploit this before the rule was put in place.

So just have a shitty baseball team and a ton of football players.
I can see the reasoning.

rules have changed, Wes will probably throw all summer and go out in the fall. He will compete for the starting position and has the smarts and talent to win the position. He will not be considered scholarship against any numbers until he wins the starting job. he has been getting recruited and has sat with Coach Miles twice to discuss his options. Miles and Wes have valid concerns. Coach Maneiri encourges him to go out for football and thinks he can make a difference.

Wes is going to be the best thing at catcher after Gibbs leaves. Has got a heck of an arm and we've seen how much it helps to have a stable young gun behind homeplate.

Like most smaller guys Luquette has probably learned to adjust to his height, so that should not be an issue, Brees, Vick, Garcia, etc. Not saying he is that caliber, but has potential. Miles loves him and wants him, just having to answer to a qb under 6'2"
