It's been a few yrs since I ate inside and got a drink but the language a McD's operator used to explain the move is straight from a Dilbert strip.

“It’s an evolution towards convenience and (the result of) the growth of digital service," huh? somebody please translate.

I've spent too much time in the corporate world, because this line sounded totally natural to me. It's just corporate shorthand

Allow me to translate. Customers aren't using the dining rooms much, so we are moving away from supporting that portion of the business. They are going to be implementing AI ordering systems and emphasize pre-order and pickup via mobile app. Self serve takes additional, money, staff resources and time to maintain, is used in small volumes compared to other parts of the business and is largely irrelevant for most visitors, so they are going to retire them and the expense that they represent.

a.k.a. We're going to do less and charge more.
