Yes, the claim in OP is incorrect.

Randy Johnson turned 30 on September 10, 1993.

Prior to that date, he had 1,199 strikeouts.

His career strikeout total is 4,875.

Subtracting 1,199 from 4,875 leaves 3,676 strikeouts, which would be good for 6th all time (Bert Blyleven is 5th with 3,701 and Tom Seaver would be 7th with 3,640).
