AOR was essentially top 4O for albums.
As the '70s went along Top 40 AM was less and less interested in guitar-oriented hard rock. But AOR FM welcomed it, giving lots of airplay to arena rock staples from Zep to VH & ACDC.
The "Yacht Rock" (lol) acts got airplay on Top 4O as well as AOR, giving them a sales advantage over hard rock acts.
