I love them both. Seger has such great lyrics. His line in Night Moves "working on mysteries without any clues" is just fricking amazing and a perfect description of teenage sex. He has a lot of those gems.
Springsteen gets a lot of hate in the South because he's obviously from Jersey and his work is very East Coast driven. Seger is Mid-West which can translate to all geographic regions, and he sings about various regions - especially the West.
As far as albums are concerned there is no comparison. Springsteen put out fantastic albums. Even the haters can tell you their names. Seger's best album is Live Bullet. No one ever says, "man you have to pick up this Seger album".
But I love them both. Seger's lyrics to me are somewhat more hopeful at times, Bruce's best songs tend to be more downcast in nature.
