Like I said, being in a position to defend double standards makes you uncomfortable so you just holler “whataboutism”. Maybe you just shouldn’t defend them.

No. Diverting the discussion from a particular topic into one manufactured to discuss double standards is not logical progression. It's also a tactic used by people, I'm not saying you specifically, to avoid discussing topics. It's a tool of messaging, bordering on propaganda, by people who want to obfuscate actual discussion, for obvious reasons.

I've seen the song and dance too many times and stop it before they divert the actual conversation to the conversation they want to have. It's not that I'm scared, it's that I understand what they are doing whether they understand what they're doing or not. It's become really bad over the past 10 years or so on the right, by people mimicking what the left has done for a long time.

Discussions about double standards are fine for discussions about double standards. They don't belong a discussions about other topics as a diversionary tactic.
