5 bodies at a time for 1 hour with the ovens running 24/7 would be about that number... unsure about that.


The complicating factor is that these were pre-war, "civilian" designs for ordinary cremation needs. It was against German law to cremate more than 1 body at a time and illegal to mix ashes of 2 or more remains. Therefore, a high-capacity incinerator would have had no legal applications before the Holocaust.

Flash forward to "The Final Solution" and the SS. Once they figured out how to kill on a large scale, the bigger problem became body disposal. Enter the Topf company with is many innovations, not the least of which was the multi-muffle incincerator - 1 heat source with up to 8 "muffles" (compartments for remains) and this allowed for industrial grade throughput at the larger facilities.
