Would I rely on a sheriff's department to control access? No.

Power is out, banking is dead. People in the Sheriffs department won't be getting paid and they have families too.
Their loyalty won't be to you unless you are personal friends and family
I can see Benton closing access to Bossier tho. lol

I was thinking the same thing since I live in the Benton area. If they got across the river there's thousands of baws between me and them. They'll never make it to Benton.
And yeah, the Sheriff's department will have the same problems every other government agency does, but the people would support the Sheriff's department. Nobody is going to care if the clerk of court's office quits at that moment but the SD would be getting all kinds of support and volunteers I imagine. The Sheriff is the most powerful person in the parish and he has the power to deputize so he could keep the department together with volunteers if need be.
As for being a fed. I was probably on their list before you were born.
