Making such a blanket statement based on the enormous requirement of being under 40 is kind of silly. Unless you're solely walking every single round, never get beverages from the cart girls or the oak grill, never buy food or drinks from the pool cabana, never eat dinner at the oak grill, never go to the wine dinners, bingos or holiday buffets, don't play in the BCCC tournaments, don't join the MGA, don't get the range plan you're looking at roughly $90/week just in dues. I'm not sure how you can say that makes more sense without alot of other factors. If you're over 40 the price goes up to about $140 a week and thats without one day on the range and no cart rentals. For $140 a week I can play a mid week scramble at Royal, Carter or Oak Harbor and two weekend rounds (Diamonhead, The Oaks, The Bridges, etc.). Driving that far is the issue and how/why Money Hill comes into the equation but I like the people and social dynamic better at BCCC. Not a knock at the people over at MH, they're just a bit older with most having different interests. The proximity of the course, social events, etc is what puts BCCC ahead of public golf and MH IMO but it's definitely not because of the price. If it was just about golf, no way would I think BCCC makes "more sense" for most people.
I pay $309 in dues

I need to play walking golf roughly 3.5 times a month to break even from a golf perspective with the current fees for public golf in this state. Everything else you listed like food etc is not required when playing golf. And if k choose to eat dinner or buy a beer that’s something I am going to sue regardless of where I play….

I am not saying a public course would 100% fail here, but with 3 cheaper country clubs all in the area I think it makes it more difficult.Obviously for people playing 10 times a year a public course is a far better option. But is it a smart executive decision to build a course relying on those people?

I would be nervous opening up a public course in Mandeville with the clubs currently all in the area.

On the NS you have options to other states, like Mississippi.

The under 40 membership does bring more value but that's a much smaller demographic and doesnt apply to most people at the club and it's finite length of time. Strictly from a golf perspective, the under 40 COULD be the best option depending on alot of other factors but the true appeal of BCCC for most people is the other things that country club life brings.

If you're break even is 3.5 times a month, you can play Diamondhead 4 times a month for the same price so again, you'd have to play at least once a week and never (or hardly every) rent a cart and never (or hardly ever) go to the range and never (or hardly ever) play in the BCCC or MGA tournaments.

Just being reasonable and just on golf, let's just say you rent a cart for an 18 hold round three times a month, that $309 membership is now $384.

The weekend resident fee at English Turn is $84, $109 for morning at The Bridges (twilight from $49-$79) and that doesnt even consider discounts available through casino memberships, The Oaks for $100 in the morning or $79 at twilight and that doesnt consider discounts available through their membership card. I havent even started considering other courses within an hour (Greystone, Grand Ridge, Carter, etc.)

I'm at BCCC so it's not that I don't think it's a good option but strictly for golf, strictly for the limited under 40 dues, it's no slam dunk. There are options as residents of the Northshore but it requires what alot of people have to do in other cities...travel an hour or so.
