re: Talor Gooch invited to PGA Championship; 16 Total from LIV

The OWGR debate is simply about ranking the best players in the world correctly.
The vision & plan for LIV was to have the best players in the world play golf in a more entertaining way to attract more viewers/fans with a new product.
The response from the establishment was to ban them & tell them you have to play golf our way. As a result, we now have Bryson Dechambeau ranked #117, Dustin Johnson #379, & a number of top 100 golfers ranked incorrectly.
Nice to see PGA Championship make some exceptions, but it’s still hard to get it 100% right as they’ve got guys like Taylor Montgomery & Sami Valimaki playing instead of Louis Oosthuizen.

Could there be a series of LIV-Tour match play events?
Then we can see how bad or good LIV is or is not?
Brooks-Rory
Gooch-Speith
Rahm-Scheffler
Cam Smith- Justin Thomas
Etc and so forth
This could be a fake feud to generate some artificial rivalries.
It will all work itself out when one side or the other runs out of money or patience.

Not sure how Burmester makes it but not Oosthuizen.
Apparently, Louis received an invite to play in PGA Championship but declined due to “personal commitments”. I’ve only seen 1 source from UK with that report, but good on PGA for inviting most of the LIV guys that deserved to be there.
Hopefully we will hear more about why he declined.

Would you be this happy for McDonald’s employees if they had friction and got their salaries raised to $50 an hour? Or would you be like “why do I care how much someone else makes? But it sure sucks my Big Mac is now $22”
I’ve yet to hear people this excited for NBA or NFL players when they raise the salary cap

It will work itself out or not. AFL/NFL merged. ABA/NBA merged.
These aren’t even close to the same thing. LIV is operating with an open checkbook without any worry about a ROI.

They need to figure out how to get back golf fans that are tired of all the money arguments and shitty product and have decided to go play the game on weekends instead.
They need another phenom like Tiger, Jack, Arnold, etc. Golf just isn't a sport that draws eyeballs unless you have someone like that attracting casual fans or even non-golf fans to watch. There aren't enough die hard golf fans to carry the sport to the financial levels Tiger drew without a player like him.

Could just get an app like the Masters and keep playing.
I’d rather play than watch.

A champion will rise.
Scheffler is accumulating majors. Maybe he’s the one. Or Aberg. Or Rahm. Or Cam Smith.
Somebody will stake a few and become the next big thing.

eventually but who knows when. Everyone thought Rory would be that guy, then Speith, and now it's Scheffler. If Koepka had come on when he was younger, maybe we wouldn't even be having this conversation, but golf definitely needs a young phenom to win 4-5 majors early in his career to draw people back because golf was not on many people's radars for a long time until Tiger started winning at a ridiculous clip.

It could be Joaquin Niemann, but he has an entire golf establishment working against him just because he chose guaranteed money & would rather play team golf on an international tour.
Absurd that he is ranked #91 & has to go through open qualifying to play in a major, while they roll out the red carpet for #6 Ludvig

wtf do you downvoters have against Joaco?
He’s as likable & just as talented as Aberg, Hovland, etc. Do y’all hate Caleb Surratt & David Puig too? A lot of great young talented golfers play on LIV too

Neimann has played in 20 majors. He has missed the cut in 7 of them and his best finish is T16. Do you just go out of your way to simp for LIV players?
Neimann hasn't missed a single major since joining LIV. At his age, Tiger had already won 6 majors, Jack had already won 4, Rory 4, and so on. No, Neimann is not missing out on being the next GOAT level player because the establishment is against him. He's a very good player but he's not on that level. If he was, he'd be blowing away the competition on LIV. He's not doing that either.

He’s a top 10 golfer in the world right now, not top 90. He is the best player on LIV this year after 7 events. Better than Rahm, Koepka, Cam Smith, etc
He’s finished top 10 in 6 of those
top 5 in 4
Won twice
Are you really that ignorant?

I guess I’m just not concerned about the “no star” state of the game.
I think “sports watching” is no longer a “sit in the chair” from beginning to end.
People just check a score, watch a highlight, maybe a quick DVR tour of the game or tournament.
I don’t think Masters engagement with fans was truly down. We just consumed our golf differently with the APP and such.

maybe, but the next GOAT level player would be unquestionably the best golfer on the planet. Neimann is not that and you know it. What Schefler is doing right now is what Neimann needs to be doing to be in that conversation

7 whole events. No one has ever won 2 events in a tour season before. Never. What a historic accomplishment.

I'm not, but you certainly have lost any sense of reality since the tour split.

Actually, I’m very aware of the level of young talent in professional golf.
Y’all think comparing 24 year old #6 Aberg to 25 year old #91 Niemann is absurd simply bc you’re eating up what the PGA/media is feeding you. They are very similar in level of talent.

Except I'm not comparing Neimann to those guys. I'm comparing him to the best in the world. Those guys aren't on Scottie's level either. You so badly want to have a debate on whether the OWGR are fair that you're not even staying on topic to what I said
None of those guys have done anything yet to make me think maybe they're the next Tiger. If some of these younger guys, including Neimann, string off a few major wins over the next 2-3 years, then we can talk. Regardless of the path he had to take, Neimann is still, in fact, playing in these majors. If he's the next hot shot you say he is but for the estbalishment, then we should expect him to contend right?
Players like I'm talking about come around once in a generation. There's no need to interject someone who may be top 10 in the world right now into that conversation. Top 10 level players come and go all the time. That's not what I'm talking about.

I guess you think we’re having a one on one conversation because I responded to your post, but there are multiple people posting in this thread. Obviously I’m responding to the fact that some think it’s absurd to compare those two & the fact that you think I’m being unrealistic & unreasonable in my comparisons.
Btw there may never be another Tiger. Probably won’t be.

Sure, but he is not qualified for US Open. This started bc I stated it’s absurd that he has to go through open qualifying.
