It's just pure ego driven stupidity on anyone's part that is not actively engaged in riding this surge in attention/eyeballs/etc.

Fine...be jealous, but be an adult, be smart, they need to shut their mouths and think about the long game,.... if they really give a shite, which is unknown to me.

The smart person bites their tongue when the jealousy creeps in(or whatever it is) and finds diplomatic ways to say what they want while projecting confidence and support publicly because this is a situation where a "rising tide lifts all boats" and every player, coach, commentator stands to benefit from this increase in attention and ad revenue. Hopefully some smart people start to prevail and see that they are sabotaging a great opportunity, and they can get the negative voices tamped down.
