Get a soil test and see if it needs phosphorus (P). Many soils have plenty of P, the middle number of the 13-13-13 example. But if, in your case, P is deficient, that could hinder the spread.
I don’t think P or K is an issue.
I put down a triple 13 in the spring then straight N. Lowe’s Sta-Green Ammonium Sulfate is all you need. If lawn is low in ph use 46-0-0 urea instead.
I do have RGS (root growth stimulator) but that’s only because I enjoy spraying stuff on the lawn. Kind of kidding, but not convinced it works. It contains sea kelp. Can’t hurt
