only thing I would advocate is why penalize sec teams for playing the schedule they have to play every year while giving automatic berths to small conferences as bid stealers. Look at LSU non conf record LSU would still mop the floor with 3/4 the field the sec is so competitive now that really good teams are getting shortchanged

Keep rationalizing. If it's not everyone gets a trophy it is pretty close. It is the regular season means very little.

The selection committee already takes conferences into account, which is why more than half the SEC get in and a quarter or more host a regional, often a super. A defending champ, especially in the context of a team that loses a lot of players, should have to earn a chance like everyone else.
