Getting my arse kicked on the reg was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Never trust a man who hasn’t been in fistfights.

My dad taught me young to not take any shite from others when I was being bullied at a new school when we moved.

He told me next time give the person fair warning to back off or you’re gonna beat his arse. If he doesn’t, then keep your word and do it. I was worried I’d get suspended from school and my dad said yea probably, so just take your punishment but it’ll be worth the respect you get in the long run.

I ended up bloodying the boys nose next time it happened. Told the principal I warned him. Boy admitted that I warned him. Principal told boy he deserved it then and sent us back to class

My Jr. year of HS I was playing dodgeball and a kid on the other side crossed the red line, hit me in the face with the ball, one of those small frickers, and kicked me in the nuts.

I proceeded to give him what he always called the best black eye of his life.

The coach separated us, the bell rang and it was lunch so we went to the parking lot and fought for the entire lunch hour. He was bull strong, 5'10, 210 but I was quicker at 6' -145 and we fought to a draw. Only time I ever did that. The entire school including a few teachers watched. The teachers told me I was holding my own so they let us go.

We ended up being lifelong friends. Cancer got him a couple of years ago. Hoist one for John "Red" Walker sometime.
