I wonder if people thought similar in 1939-40?
WW1 was a distant memory by a persons lifespan back then. We just saw the roaring 20’s and Prohibition which had a divided country. And were reeling from a depression.
I was told this by a ww2 veteran I was pushing out to his car from the hospital. He’d have been in his 70’ in the mid 1990’s. “You’d be fine. Amazing what people can do when they have to. “
