It really doesn't though.
I used to feel like that myself. Then I figured out that it's only going to break, if I misuse it.
There have been a couple of times, when I lost the U-joint for the main drive. I pulled the rear driveshaft, threw it in the back and drove home with the front axle.
Now I know, it's better to have it, especially when it's time to sell or trade it.
