And yet you seem to find that more acceptable than just using "they".
But then, I must be one of the smart people since this has never been an issue for me IRL. It's only existed as an internet discussion.
Except that in the vernacular, I use "they" to refer to almost anything. "Hey, they got any more beers in the cooler?" could even be referring back to myself.
