That's a non sequitur.
The context is second-person vs third-person, and singular vs plural pronouns. That we may use the same word for second-person singular or plural would seem to suggest it wouldn't be such a stretch to assign the same construction to the third-person that we do to the second.
It beats the hell out of coming up with new words such as xe/xem.
