And 72 steals is a major contribution to defense.

Some of the discrediting narratives going around about Young are about turnovers. Those are highly invalid.
(And for more on that, he has a better career assist to turnover ratio than LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Allen Iverson.)
He gets turnovers on the defensive end at a better rate than guys who regularly make the All-Defense Teams, and others that are generally considered "superstars".
You're calling him the worst defender in the league. Being top 20 in the NBA in steals is at odds with that.
If he gained some quality weight, he'd probably be a better consistent defender. He's young, so maybe he does that, maybe doesn't, but getting steals at a high rate is a boon to defense.
