But how long do you expect Jay to wait on guys to turn the corner?
He depended on these guys to do that this year and it hasn't happened, which begs the question if that affected his portal approach last year.
He can't afford to wait on development that may or may not happen and instead grab talent from the portal that can be instant contributors.

I think it will depend on each individual, as much of a copout as that may sound like.
I don't think he'll hesitate to cut bait on guys who have talent but aren't progressing because of buy-in, attitude, or work ethic. But guys that are working and it just hasn't come together yet will get more leash.
But yes, it absolutely affected his portal approach last offseason. He made comments about being more selective and relying on guys already here to make a leap forward.
The issue with the portal is how volatile it is. I'm just hoping there might be a couple freshmen in the Pac 12 that aren't too kean on their future travel arrangements. One of them is Kucherak's HS teammate and one is at Cal.
