All old money was once trashy new money. Old money just means you'r putting on airs while living off the effort of your ancestor who didn't know what fork to use but busted his arse so your daughter could be a debutante.

I disagree. The puritans of early New England might have arrived less than rich, but they were never “trashy”. They brought strong family culture and work ethic, which is why the regions inhabited by puritans grew so wealthy so fast.
