Humans will go extinct regardless.

Even if we were to find another habitable planet, those who colonize it will eventually evolve into something different. And humans (homo sapiens) will no longer exist there.

And when we are gone here, we will be GONE.

That’s doubtful humans will go extinct in your scenario. In the event that Mars gets colonized, tech will obviously exist for humans to live in spaceships and space stations. Sure. It is possible the ones that colonize Mars may eventually mutate into a new species.

Whatever scientists end up calling my great great great (1000X) grandchildren, I want those people to have a chance to exist, as opposed to not having one because people today didn’t see the point in trying to live off the planet so homo sapiens were killed off by a giant space rock or runaway volcanism.

Seriously, what has happened to people? Humans went to the moon simply because it was there, now we’re too lazy/nihilistic/dull to imagine anything else?
