It does matter.

If Congress passed legislation that lets people write off their student loans after working a government job for 10 years, anyone with hefty loans (especially in a useless field) is an idiot for not doing so. The blame isn't with them for taking advantage of the system, it's with those who created the system and those who continue to vote for people who pass such self-destructive legislation.

This is no different than someone taking advantage of some tax break to avoid paying more in taxes.
