prime Tiger is the best ever but I do think the best players of Tiger's era tended to wilt at the sight of Tiger
Lets be honest, Tiger entered the PGA at the perfect exact time to dominate.
All the old stars...well, were frankly old. Fuzzy Zoeller was still playing for christsakes and had a mentality of yesteryear.
Fat old guys and Tiger comes along. What did you think was gonna happen? It took some years for a bunch of new young bucks to make noise and challenge Tiger but he definitely joined the PGA playing against semi-retirees and capitalized on it. I mean who wins the Masters by that many strokes unless his competition has one foot in the grave.

fuzzy zoeller?
olazabal
goosen
love
singh
parnevik
etc
were all peers of tiger in 97 at the masters
tiger went 70-66-65-69 in 97 and overpowered the course
they changed the course because of him
to me #3 is hogan or jones
jones played 8 years and won 4 US, 3 British and 5 US amateurs against the best the game had to offer then he quit
hogan from ‘38-59 won 63 times, 9 majors, lost two years to WW2, survived a car wreck with a broken pelvis in ‘49 and came back on a historic run with the triple crown in ‘53. he famously hated the matchplay style of the pga championship and skipped it routinely
its tough to compare eras, I agree. all you can do is beat who they put in front of you. these two dominated everyone they played
