I'm a huge Jack fan boy full disclosure but I always put it like this - prime Tiger is the best ever but I do think the best players of Tiger's era tended to wilt at the sight of Tiger - the best memorable battles Tiger got in majors were from the likes of Rocco Mediate and Scott May, Rich Beam and Yang were two that even managed to best him.
I think Jack more often got the best of the best in his era coming in second in epic battles with Trevino and Watson, 19 second place finishes in majors for Jack.
I'd put it like this, the fields were deeper for Tiger no doubt and when he was at his best he was the best ever. But the better players of Jack's era - the Trevino's, Floyd's, Watson's, Player's and Palmer's were I think stronger.
