I remember when I was first exposed to white neighborhoods and white families.

It did reveal to me how much safer my neighborhood could be, and it made me much more aware of the horrible conditions we lived in.

The more you look at trash in your yard, the less you see it.
After a while you have to go look at a nice clean yard to see how screwed up your's is.

Crime is the same way.
