Our country had largely turned back to the right in the 80s with Reagan. The worst thing you could be in that decade was a fig. Then the late 90s and early 00s showed up and being queer suddenly was cool. Then they started getting married and it went downhill even quicker as the mentally ill trans community started making inroads.
