If anyone in this thread can tell us the current size of the State of Louisiana budget (i.e. total annual spending), you'll realize $500 million or so isn't even a drop in the bucket.

If Louisiana spends $35 BILLION per year (I'm sure it's higher than that in 2024, fiscal YE 2023 is an acceptable proxy), we're talking about 14% of total spending. Louisiana has a state budget roughly on par with Pennsylvania, yet it only has 1/3 of the citizens. Isn't it time we taxpayers got something for our money???

Alabama, Texas and Florida already provide educational vouchers for ALL students, why can't Louisiana????

Same rationale behind dropping the personal income tax: personal income tax only comprises about 8% of total state spending. Get rid off it, 8% doesn't make a difference overall (John Kennedy has said this in multiple speeches as state treasurer). Getting rid of personal income tax makes no difference to the state budget.

The State of Louisiana spends (wastes) so much damn money that redirecting ~15% of spending back to taxpayers won't make a noticeable difference.

Staggering.
