Our track teams do well individually but LSU hasn't had the depth to win track titles recently

We blew 2021 out of the water with the 2nd highest point total ever in a championship meet and our 4x4 didn't even score. Depth isn't necessarily the issue. We were going to win that meet as long as we had JuVaughn or Terrance Laird competìng. Both of them brought in 40.25 points combined (2.5 for Laird an his involvement in the 4x1). We had Rex throw a massive PR in Javelin, along with Squirrel throwing down an insane PR in the 400mh setting the World Junior Record at the time.

Yes, depth is needed, but it also takes a bit of luck to be able to have a lot of people perform at their best on the stage where it matters most. Being even 90% of what you're capable of when you perform at most sports is usually enough, but in T&F you need to be at your absolute best.

2021 is pretty recent. The LSU men were national outdoor champions that year.
