Then again, he did buy all of those 5 star players at McNeese this season

They had no 5 stars. The 5 stars he bought at LSU rarely played like it. Who knows whether they were overrated or underdeveloped.

I don't know. I'd say guys like Reid, Smart, Thomas, played pretty well.

I think there are many on here that overrate Wade's accomplishments. However, out of nothing more than the desire to take a contrarian position, there are FAR more who underrate his accomplishments. If you have always been more of a casual LSU basketball fan I guess I could see how you wouldn't think what Wade accomplished at LSU was all that noteworthy. But if you have been a invested fan of the program for a long time you know what Wade did in his short time at LSU was very noteworthy because by and large none of his predecessors since 1993 did it.

From 1994 - 2017 LSU basketball was a inconsistent afterthought. A program that was just as apt, if not more apt, to finish last in the SEC than reach the NCAA Tournament. Occasionally they would pop a random good year. 2000, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2015. But those were outliers. Starting in his second season (which was the best regular season in nearly 40 years), Wade had LSU annually in the NCAA Tournament and there was no reason to suggest that trend was going to stop until he was fired at the end of the 2022. That had not been the case since the late 80's/early 90's.

Now the program has quickly returned to the same level of apathy that existed at the end of the Johnson and Jones eras. If you don't think that is the case, then I guess it would be futile to try to convince you the sun rose in the east this morning.

Was Wade the best coach in the nation? No
Was he on the precipice of a National Championship? No.
Was LSU basketball a hell of a lot more interesting and fun during his time here than it had been since Shaq controlled the paint? Absolutely!
