We started doing this in Arkansas last year. It's called the LEARNS act. They are slowly rolling in new student eligibility over the first several years. So far the private school my kids go to hasn't doubled the tuition yet. My kids are juniors currently so we'll only end up benefitting for 1 year..but it's a start.
The idea is the money set aside for your child in the public district you're in(here it's ~$7,000 per student) is reallocated to the private school and away from the public school.
BTW - the money goes to the private schools, not you personally.
