Calling someone a racial slur should never be a hate crime (and I think hate crimes should be abolished, way too politically and discriminatorily applied).
This said, yesterday a black girl about 12 was riding her bike by my office. I saw her coming to the intersection after I left work and it was clear she was not paying any attention to cross traffic. I slowed down and she pulled out in front of me without stopping. I would have hit her and am very glad I did not. Not once did some racial slur enter my mind. All I thought was "thank God I didn't hit a child."
You have to be trashy as frick to write that kind of note to a kid who made an errant move in traffic.
