Similar situation here at my kids private school. Only part of the school will view the eclipse. The remainder will be inside all afternoon, for the "safety" of the students. It's the dumbest shite I've read, but totally not surprised.
So on an afternoon when 80% of the sun will be covered, my kids (pk-3 & 3rd) can't go outside because they might take some glasses off and stare directly at the sun, but on the following day when its 100% bright sunshine, they can go outside because apparently only then do they know to not look at the sun? WTF?!
Meanwhile our public school district, where my wife teaches, provided glasses for every public school student to view the eclipse. I guess those public school kids are presumed to be smarter than the ones at my kids school? They must know to not look at the sun without glasses.
