You can look at the eclipse without glasses during totality when the moon completely blocks the sunlight.

If you look at a partial eclipse when you're not in a total eclipse then you're basically staring at the sun on a normal day like a window licker and probably deserve to go blind. Staring at the sun really hurts. If you do it long enough to go blind you weren't going to amount to much anyways.

I don’t disagree. That wouldn’t stop a parent from suing if the kid did do just that (and I definitely know some kids who would).

The larger issue is instead of standing up to these idiots in court, districts assume it’s cheaper to settle out of court. They don’t want the “bad” publicity of fighting a parent in court.
