I think you can buy some eclipse sunshades at Walmart and Target for a couple of bucks.
I stacked neutral density filters to take this eclipse pic at White Sands desert a few years ago.

But it's Alabama. You won't even know the eclipse is going on there. There's nothing to look at that you can see without having glasses on. You put glasses on and see the moon partially covering the sun while it's complete daylight around you.
