I doubt Metallica would get offered the job, but it could maybe work.
I'm surprised Foo Fighters haven't done it yet.
I could see Green Day doing it.
Blink - 182 is not big enough today, and never will be
Other bands? Man, I don't know...there just aren't many big rock bands that were big in the early 2000's that get a big enough draw today. Maybe the Killers? But they aren't huge either.

I think some here overestimate Foo Fighters’ popularity and footprint in the collective consciousness.
As many records as they’ve sold, a Super Bowl audience wouldn’t know who they are.
