You need a good contact cleaner. Not the bullshite you get at most stores. I think CDC made the one I used to use on encoders with issues. I had an issue with a night vision scope I accidentally stored with the batteries in it and that cleaned it up with no issues.
ETA. Ignore the CDC. I looked and it’s Hosa D5S-6 CAIG DeoxIT 5% Spray Contact Cleaner
