I would think the bigger problem with managing it in Excel is permissions and access. If everyone has carte blanc access to change data and formulas, it wouldn't take long to render the spreadsheet useless. I would hope they have it locked down for the most part. At least putting it in a database, building out the database with past orders and inventory on hand would really help with their future needs.

I don't know how long he harped on the excel aspect of the team. The thread makes it seem like he came in and thought everything was fine except the excel usage. I'm guessing it was just one thing in a list a mile long of things that need to change. I would hope this is the case at least.
