A former FFXIV player returns to WoW

My hunter was created towards the tail end of BC days. Played through most of WoTLK, a lot of early Cata. Skipped MOP. Came back during WoD. Came back again during Legion. That was the last time I played retail, so I wanted to start fresh.
Rolled a demon hunter.
I kind of forgot how good this game "feels" to play.
Also, this game "still" looks good to me despite being 20 years old. Yes, the newer zones and armor designs have higher resolution textures, but even the older areas have a timeless visual style. The game is also incredibly visually consistent unlike FFXIV where some of the zones look great and some not so much.
The new level scaling is incredibly confusing to me. Upon finishing the Demon Hunter intro, I appeared to be thrown into completing the Legion questline, but it gave me a quest to do a dungeon, but only BFA dungeons were available in the DF.
Found the Chromie NPC (only after a Google search), and started playing through BFA.
I miss the cool music during the dungeons and the ability to teleport everywhere
Don't know if I'll stick around, but it's good to see that the game hasn't completely fallen off a cliff.

Is this some sort of random engine that you can use to pick out a character for yourself? I played a little bit last night as World of Warships feels like work to me now.

Incredible class IMO. I've tanked some raids on mine and its a ton of fun.

A lot of the YouTubers complain about the game a lot, and many have valid points, but IMO its in as good of a state as it has been in a while. The new content is actually pretty good too, which helps.
Asmon has a legit complaint about it though, theres just too much going on and the fact that players feel like they need AddOns is evidence of that. Adds to improve QoL stuff are fine, but if you need it just to play the game at all its a sign that theres a lot of ability bloat.
