I always think of guys like Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark, and John Prine as singers who have a voice that fits their songs and style. They don't have the best voice, but maybe a really great singing voice wouldn't portray the mood or imagery that their voices help their song lyrics invoke.
