The scoring is definitely up. But it's cyclical, depending on the rules. In the 90s it was all about defense and the scoring was way down.
But growing up in the 80s, scoring was always high. The were tons of teams averaging over 120ppg. So I don't think its out of control now.
I do like them not blowing the whistle too much and letting the game flow..

Zion is 11th in the NBA with 6.7 free throws attempted per game
SGA attempts 8.8 per game.
SGA also takes 20.2 shots per game, while Zion takes 15.2 (and makes basically the same percentage)
Zion is not an MVP candidate because he watches Ingram takes 16.1 midrange jumpers a game
