LIV was never about getting its own golf league, it was about getting in the ELITE boys club that is US Golf. Money can't buy your way in and Yasir saw that, i think that his main motivation is to get in that club through the merger, he WANTS it to go through.

Don’t think that’s necessarily the case anymore. Even if the merger goes through, he’s not letting LIV dissolve.

That has always been the case; it was never about the money but rather about the access.
The SSG deal likely fends off further true splitting of important assets as Yasir and the PIF are both somewhat tied into and, straight up, aren't good and savvy enough to continuously pick off John Henry, Arthur Blank, Wyc Grousbeck, and the like.
Golf is not big enough or lucrative enough on its own to continually pour these kinds of resources into the sport, though. These kinds of up-front comps and purses are unsustainable over the long-term given ratings, advertising reach, and so forth. There is more than a small kernel of me that it beginning to think the PIF was leveraging this as a carrot into high level US sports ownership, particularly the NFL.
